And the Legacy He Built in the Classic City

When you see a photo of Lee Epting at the Masters, you’re looking at a man who has spent over 50 years mastering the art of the Southern welcome. But for those of us in Athens, Georgia, Lee’s impact stretches far beyond the manicured greens of Augusta. He isn't just a caterer; he’s a storyteller, a preservationist, and a cornerstone of the local community.

A Native Son with a Vision

A native Athenian and University of Georgia alumnus, Lee’s journey began in the late 1960s. Long before A Good Story was bringing southern style food to your kitchen, Lee was busy shaping the landscape of Athens. In 1970, he restored the Old Southern Depot, turning it into "The Station"—a project that sparked the beginning of several iconic local businesses, including Aurum Studios and The Grit.

His passion for the "Real South" didn't stop at restaurants. Lee has been a tireless advocate for historic preservation, personally moving and restoring 14 historic homes in the Athens area. Eight of these structures now form "The Hill," a beautiful property that serves as a venue for weddings and community gatherings, ensuring that the city’s architectural history lives on for future generations.

Serving the Community, One Plate at a Time

Lee’s commitment to Athens is best seen through his "roll-up-your-sleeves" approach to local causes. He has been a long-time supporter of:

  • The Northeast Georgia Food Bank: Helping to ensure no one in the community goes hungry.

  • Local Arts and Culture: Serving as a sponsor for the Atlanta Film Festival and supporting the Osborne Film Festival.

  • Historic Foundations: Serving as a trustee for the Athens Clarke Heritage Foundation.

Bringing the Athens Spirit Home

At A Good Story, we believe that every great meal should feel like it was made just for you by a neighbor who cares. That’s the philosophy Lee has instilled in Epting Events for decades, and it’s what we strive to bring to your dinner table.

When you order from our Southern Collection, you’re not just getting a recipe; you’re getting a piece of the hospitality Lee has spent his life perfecting in Athens. Whether it’s a quiet family dinner or a backyard celebration, we’re proud to share the flavors of a man who truly knows how to tell a good story through food.
